- Abstract:
- Although there has been a recent increase in scholarship regarding Afro-Brazilian women's representation in literature, not much has been discussed regarding narratives portrayed through the perspective of Afro-Brazilian girls. Therefore, this paper analyzes five first person narrated Afro-Brazilian novels regarding their respective narrators' childhood and identity formation. Through close reading and literary analysis supported by Conceição Evaristo's escrevivência and Lélia Gonzalez's feminismo afro-latino-americano this paper concluded that family, place and trauma were the most influential aspects in regards to these young narrators' identity formation and social conditioning.
