The Effectiveness of an Intervention Aimed at Increasing Childhood Lead Screening Rates at a Federal Qualified Health Center

Description

Abstract:
Lead poisoning can affect a child’s neurologic development and even their ability to do well academically. Housing in Rhode Island poses a significant lead exposure risk. Blackstone Valley Community Health Care (BVCHC) centers serve populations at risk for lead exposure. Lead screening rates dropped during the pandemic at BVCHC, a federally qualified health center (FQHC). A decrease in lead screening rates was seen locally and nationally during the COVID-19 pandemic. We seek to assess and explore three objectives through this quality improvement (QI) project, including assessing barriers to lead screening, assessing the effectiveness of a QI intervention, and exploring best practices for lead screening.
