- European modernism began with small magazines, often with limited circulation. Additionally, the early 20th century was a period of significant political turbulence marked by the rapid emergence of radical nationalisms. Portugal was no exception to this trend. The main aim of this article is to examine the sociocultural context of the time, supporting the thesis that both Orpheu and Athena were magazines that, despite their seemingly out-of-sync nature, shared a form of discontinuous continuity.
- O modernismo europeu teve início com pequenas revistas, muitas vezes com tiragens reduzidas. Além disso, o começo do século xx foi um período de grande turbulência política, marcado pela rápida ascensão de nacionalismos radicais. Portugal não foi uma exceção a essa tendência. O objetivo principal deste artigo é analisar o contexto sociocultural da época, apoiando a tese de que tanto Orpheu quanto Athena eram revistas extemporâneas que, apesar de parecerem desconectadas no tempo, compartilhavam uma forma de continuidade descontínua.
