Description
- Abstract:
- It was an unusually cold day for that time of the year but inside the sumptuous State Room of the Rhode Island State House, the temperature outside was not on the minds of those who were there to celebrate the Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities on 10 June 2011. The annual Rhode Island Day of Portugal ceremonies and reception were taking place per custom at the grand “People’s House,” built upon a hill overlooking the city of Providence, but this year it was the first time that an Ambassador of Portugal to the United States attended the official event. His Excellency, Dr. Nuno Brito, had chosen Rhode Island’s historic capital to celebrate the Day of Portugal. Rhode Island´s Governor and former United States senator, Lincoln Chafee, was also present, as were several elected officials of Portuguese origin.
