Description
- Abstract:
- He had loved it all, but now he was dying. He had put his affairs in order, sent his files to the appropriate university archives, updated his will, made sure his children were taken care of, gave a decent sum to Greenpeace, World Wildlife, The Wilderness Society, Nature Conservancy, and Doctors Without Borders. He had left his apartment spic and span, destroying the personal mail accumulated during half a century or more. He had consigned his four thousand books to four different bookstores, indifferent to the monetary results. His art collection would now be the burden of his son. He hoped it would also be his joy. His piano he had given to a talented and eager young jazz musician he had listened to now and then late at night in Greenwich Village. He had tried to leave things in order, as best he could.
