Inter-American Commission on Human Rights

This collection compiles previously unavailable documents from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. These documents cover more than 30 cases of allegations of human rights abuse by the Brazilian military regime. Many cases were brought forward by relatives of victims or other concerned parties and received supporting documentation from organizations like Amnesty International, religious groups, and others. The IACHR considered these cases and often filed them due to what they deemed a lack of sufficient information. In others, the IACHR proclaimed to have enough evidence that there were human rights violations happening in Brazil. These cases are an important historical source that documents the struggles faced by activists in Brazil to have their cause recognized internationally. Although the Brazilian government repeatedly denied all accusations, the IACHR became one of the official forums where Brazilians were able to air their grievances. All case documents have been separated and categorized and are accompanied by a short description of the case and links to other resources.
