- Abstract:
- Cesar Chavez, president of the United Farm Workers Union charged that growers in California were engaged in a conspiracy with Teamsters union officials involving illegal cash payments in order to crush his union. One Teamster official has testified that he witnessed growers paying Teamsters in order to intimidate members of the UFW into accepting a Teamster contract. The majority of farm workers polled said they would rather be part of the UFW, but had been pressured into joining the Teamsters.
