- The Ralph M. Brown Act, California's anti-secrecy law, ensures that public agencies remain accountable to the people they serve. Trustees of the Coachella Valley Unified School District met in a closed executive session in order to confer with their attorney and voted to dismiss Koenig, ask for the resignation of Coffey and reassign Cochran, Marquez, Quintero and Almaraz to non-teaching positions. Contrary to district policy they did not announce the decisions made in the executive session until six days later. Though legal, their secrecy is criticized as contrary to the moral intent of the Brown Act.
