Abstract:
A collection such as the Library of Congress’ Archive of Folk Culture is intended to keep materials both safe and, ultimately, accessible. But preservation and access concerns often pull in oppostire directions, perhaps increasingly so in the Web domain. And legal parameters do not resolve all ethical concerns when dealing with intangible properties, and with communities, donors, and researchers.
