- The article explores the definition of a state and the reasons why the Kurds has been recognized as the world's largest ethnic group and how state-like institutions successfully managed what they intend to portend. It outlines the factors where an entity can be officially recognized as a state including their capacity to develop diplomatic relations, their population and defined territory. The impact of the U.S. destruction of Saddam Hussein on the independence of the Iraqi Kurds is emphasized.
