- The article presents an assessment of the relations between Abkhazia and Georgia in relation to the Russia-Georgian War in August 2008. A brief history of Georgia and Abkhazia is presented, which covers Georgian politics under a communist regime. An explanation of the argument that Georgia's historical claims to Abkhazia have no foundation is presented. It is suggested that the administration of former U.S. President George W. Bush cannot be blamed for the recognition of Georgia in 1992, but it was responsible for the expansion of U.S. interests in the region.
