- An interview with Columbia University Edward Said Professor of Modern Arab Studies Rashid Khalidi is presented. He discusses the emergence of identities in the Syrian refugee crisis. Khalidi says that there was no Palestinian identity in pre-modern era. He says that common identity of Palestinians were shaped by shared hardship in conflicts such as the struggle with Zionism. He adds about the Syrian refugee crisis that is not similar to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
