Abstract:: Elsie Diggins, born March 18, 1948 still lives in the home she grew up in with two older sisters and five older brothers. She and her siblings attended Cleary School, the parish school for St. Joseph's Catholic Church, from kindergarten through ninth grade. She has very fond memories from this period. Although there were many different ethnic groups, everyone got along. The shock of attending Hope High School and encountering racial and ethnic separation remains one of her strongest memories, as does coming of age during the Vietnam era. She remains deeply connected to her neighborhood.
