Notes:
Biographical/historical note: Charles Shumway reported on his Missippi trip to visit Tougaloo and several high schools in the area. Shumway here suggested a program where a student was accepted to both Brown and Tougaloo, spending three years at one school and one year at the other. Although this program never came to fruition, it was one of many considered as the Brown-Tougaloo Exchange grew and changed. The letter is addressed to Brown University, Providence, RI.
