Page [1], 2nd count, contains a notice dated: Aux Sables d'Olonnes 11 9bre 1807 with printed portion reading: Bechaud, Major, au 66e régiment d'infanterie des lignes, commandant les 3e et 4e bataillons dudit régiment and continues in ms. hand: membre de la Légion d'honneur - commandant de Département et les côtes de la Vendée, followed by a further dedication to the author's mother.
The author of this voyage, Jean-Pierre Bechaud, arrived in Saint-Domingue during the expedition commanded by Rochambeau after the death of General Leclerc. The voyage covers the evacuation of the French forces from the island in 1803, and his travels through Cuba and Charlestown, South Carolina before his return to France in 1804.
Following the manuscript of the voyage, there is a table of contents for each section on p. [3-9], 3rd count.
