- Abstract:
- The Bersaglieri are a corps of the Italian army created by General Alessandro La Marmora in 1836 to serve in the Piedmontese Army, later to become the Royal Italian army. The name means "sharpshooters" and they are a high-mobility infantry unit. They can be recognized by the wide-brimmed hats they wear, decorated with capercaillie feathers. They were deployed abroad for the first time during the Crimean War, where they acquired their unique headdress.
