Allons, mes braves, laissez-moi; il y a de la gloire ici pour tout le monde! Réponse du roi Victor-Emmanuel aux zouaves qui veulent le retenir.

Description

Abstract:
King Victor Emmanuel, riding a white horse, tells the French Zouves who try to hold him back from Austrians wielding bayonettes: "Allow me, oh brave ones, there is enough glory here for everyone." This image, based on a sketch by the Piedmontese officer Ferli and engraved by the great French illustrator Gustave Doré, must be based on an incident that occurred in 1859 when Victor Emmanuel led his troops in battle alongside the French, including Zouave regiments.
