Les Bains Racine

Description

Abstract:
A series of blueprints and drawings of the building which served as a public bathhouse. The first page is a blueprint of the groundfloor. The second page has four small engravings of sculptures in friezes; it also has a cross-section of the bathhouse. The third page represents the main facade. The fourth page has one drawing of the waiting room ceiling, and three smaller engravings of architectural details of the same room and of the main door.
Notes:
Of note is the fact that Normand spells "Bains de Barèges" wrongly: "Bains de Barrège". Barèges is a locality in the South West of France, whose water sources were famous for their curative qualities. They contained sulfites, and by a process of dehydration, salts were extracted and used in public bathhouses such as these in France.
Extensive foxing in all but the third page.
