- Abstract:
- Six species of bats hibernate over the winter months in Taberg’s mine: the water bat (Myotis daubentonii), the brown long-eared bat (Plecotus auritus), the taiga bat (Myotis brandtii), the mustache bat (Myotis mystacinus), the northern bat (Eptesicus nilssonii), and the fringed bat (Myotis nattereri). The mine closes in the winter months to protect the sleeping bats and reopens during the summer after they have awoken and flown out. The bats are photographed and counted as they re-enter the mine.
