- A photograph of Observatory House, the residence of Caroline and William Herschel in Slough, England. Caroline moved to a nearby cottage on the grounds of the house, after her brother married in 1788. The Herschels were both excellent astronomers. William discovered Uranus, as well as several of its moons; Caroline, meanwhile, discover eight comets, and remains the only woman to have received the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society (1828).
