- In 1851, Araújo Porto-Alegre published in Rio de Janeiro, through the Biblioteca Guanabarense, a play entitled A Estátua Amazônica an Archeological Comedy. This play was a satire that parodied the erudite French society and the expedition led by the naturalist Count Francis de Castelnau who, from 1843 to 1847 journeyed through South America to find the divide between the waters of the Rio de la Plata and the Amazon River. The Araújo-Porto Alegre’s play –which has never been staged– seeks to criticize how foreigners view Brazil and its plethora of natural resources and its native civilizations. However through a mirror effect, it portrays the erudite society of Brazil of the beginning of the Second Empire, when painters, geographers, historians, archaeologists, politicians and writers sought to construct an image of the Brazilian Empire and conquer a place in the limelight.
- Em 1851, Araújo Porto-Alegre publicou na Biblioteca Guanabarense uma “comédia arqueológica”, A Estátua amazônica, sátira paródica da expedição do Conde Francis de Castelnau que, entre 1843 e 1847, percorreu a América do Sul para determinar o divisor de águas da bacia do Prata e do Amazonas. A peça de Araújo-Porto Alegre – nunca encenada – ao buscar criticar o olhar estrangeiro sobre o Brasil e suas riquezas naturais, através de um jogo de espelhos, apresenta também o retrato da sociedade erudita do Brasil do início do Segundo Império onde pintores, geógrafos, historiadores, arqueólogos, políticos e escritores construíam a imagem do império brasileiro e lutavam por um lugar ao sol.
