- Colin David Grimsey was born in New London, CT on October 16, 1966 to Cordette and Fred Grimsey of Tallahassee, TN and Brooklyn, NY respectively. Mr. Grimsey grew up in Waterford, CT and attended Connecticut College, in New London, CT from 1985 1990. He then received a masters degree from Walden University in 2005. Mr. Grimsey is married to Janina Benoit of Westerly, RI and they live in Providence, RI. Mr. Grimsey has been an educational consultant and principal, working as a principal in Fall River, MA from 2006-2008 and has been working in the Providence Public School District since 2008. He has been the principal at Vartan Gregorian Elementary School at Fox Point for the past three years and has been involved with the implementation of the I Was There (IWT) project. The IWT project is an arts and history place-based project that has been designed by parents of Vartan Gregorian students and other community members and educators, with assistance from Brown University Professor Anne Valk and masters students at the John Nicholas Brown Center for Public Humanities and Cultural Heritage. Mr. Grimsey speaks to the connections between the Vartan Gregorian Elementary School and the wider Fox Point community from his experience and knowledge of the history of this place. Questions for this interview were created on the basis of gaining an understanding of Mr. Grimseys experience in Fox Point as well as his reflections on the successes and areas for growth of the IWT project as it enters the fourth year at the Vartan Gregorian Elementary School.
