Abstract:: In Part 1 of this interview, Helen Elizabeth Butts Correll discusses her memories and feelings towards mandatory chapel services at Pembroke, the seperation of male and female students in lower level classes, and her academic experiences in the Biology department. She then discusses her life after Pembroke: teaching at Wellesley, her marriage and children, and the opportunities available to her as a woman in the 1930s. In Part 2, she discusses her perspectives on marriage, the attitudes towards women in science fields, social and dating life as an undergraduate, and her views on women's roles in society.
Notes:: Class year: 1928; Biographical note: Helen Elizabeth Butts was born in 1907 to George L. and Albertine C. Butts. After graduating from Brown, she earned her PhD in Zoology from Duke University. In 1937, she married Donovan Stewart Correll, with whom she researched and published as a botanist. She died in 1992.
