Abstract:: In Part 1 of the interview, Elizabeth talks about her family and her upbringing in rural Texas and how she came to attend Pembroke College. She also discusses her close relationship with Nancy Duke Lewis (Dean of Pembroke College from 1950 to 1960), the tradition of chapel, dinner in Andrews Hall, her dislike of the physical education requirement, and her holiday train trips back to Texas. In Part 2, she talks about the difficulties she had assimilating at Pembroke as a rural Texan, the freshman speech class requirement, President Henry Merritt Wriston's advice to the Pembroke senior class, and her thoughts on the effect of the Pembroke-Brown merger on Pembroke traditions.
Notes:: Class year: 1952; Biographical note: Elizabeth Anne Gibbons Perryman (formerly Rauh) was born on March 19, 1931 in Brownwood, Texas, a fourth-generation rancher's daughter. After completing her senior year of high school in Colorado Springs, she earned her AB in Latin from Brown and her Master's in Elementary Education from Harvard. Elizabeth married John D. Rauh in 1954. She lived in Cincinnati for thirty years, where she served on the Board of Trustees of the Playhouse-in-the-Park and was involved with the Contemporary Arts Center.
