Abstract:
An engraving showing General Winfield Scott submitting his resignation to Lincoln and his cabinet in 1861. The depiction of Lincoln appears to be based on Gardner's 1861 portrait of the President seated beside a table. Bears the inscription: "Abraham Lincoln. Washington. DC Nov. 16. 1861."
