- Political cartoon from "The New York Illustrated News" depicting contrasting receptions for President Lincoln's inaugural address in 1861. Lincoln is shown viewed by the North as a pacifist, holding a palm leaf and scales of justice and wearing feminine attire. He is shown viewed by the South as a man of war, holding a sword and trampling his enemy.
