- Abstract:
- In this cartoon, dating from the height of British war fever, John Bull appears as a Jack Tar of the Royal Navy, sternly admonishing a scrawny, undersized American. The latter strikes a defiant pose, but ends up looking like a caricature of a pirate. With his cocky demeanor, vaguely Lincolnesque beard, and cigar clenched in his jaw, this blustering brother Jonathan is obviously no match for the firm English sailor towering above him.
