- Recurring topic in the modern ficcion, the “travel” reverberates, in the contemporary, a kind of poetics of exile, as observed in the work of João Gilberto Noll. Important writer deceased in 2017, Noll published over thirty years several novels and short stories that have marginal characters, subjects who welcome displacement as a force of their existence. The corpus of this essay consists of the novels ‘Berkeley em Bellagio’ (2002) and ‘Lorde’ (2004). These works were written from the writer's actual experiences, that is, from two of his trips as an invited intellectual in universities in the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively. They are narratives whose protagonists depart from the periphery of the global system to its core, carrying not only epistemologies that confront the hegemonic systems of knowledge, but also with disparate sensibilities to see, to hear, to speak, to understand the other and oneself.
- Motivo recorrente na ficção moderna, a “viagem” reverbera, no contemporâneo, uma espécie de poética do desterro, como se verifica na obra de João Gilberto Noll. Importante autor falecido em março de 2017, Noll publicou ao longo das últimas três décadas uma série de romances e contos nos quais figuram personagens marginais, sujeitos que acolhem o trânsito e a deriva como tônicas de suas existências, problematizando constantemente as noções de pertencimento e de fronteira. O corpus de análise deste trabalho é constituído pelos romances ‘Berkeley em Bellagio’ (2002) e ‘Lorde’ (2004). Tais obras foram produzidas a partir de experiências do escritor advindas da realidade factual, isto é, de duas viagens suas como intelectual convidado por universidades nos Estados Unidos e na Inglaterra, respectivamente. São narrativas nas quais figuram narradores-protagonistas que partem da periferia do sistema global para o seu núcleo, carregando não apenas epistemologias que se confrontam com os sistemas hegemônicos de conhecimento, mas também com sensibilidades díspares para ver, ouvir, falar, perceber o outro e a si mesmo.
