- The Battle of Bailén took place on July 19, 1808. Under the command of Francisco Javier Castaños, the Spanish army scored a crucial victory agains the French forces, commanded by Pierre Dupont de L'Etang; after the French forces surrendered, the entirety of the soldiers went into Spanish captivity, and it was a morale booster for the Spanish forces in the war.
