Pencil draft with corrections. "Begun Nov 10 1934" written above title. "Finished Feby. 22, 1935" and "Revised Feby. 24, 1935" on last page. This second draft contains extensive revisions including substitution of one-half of the first page (HPL to Clark Ashton Smith, 1935 Mar 26, T32: 158: "Which reminds me that I've finished The Shadow Out of Time 65 pages of pencil script. I am woefully dissatisfied with it, and may destroy this version as I did the first last autumn. In my present state of doubt I am reluctant to type the thing ... "). Barlow produced a typescript of this story, which has since been lost, in August 1935 (HPL to Wandrei, 1935 Aug 14: "Bob has just copied my Shadow out of Time"). This manuscript was donated to Brown University by Lucille Shreve in the name of June Evelyn Ripley (her sister) who probably received it from Robert H. Barlow sometime during the period that she was an anthropology student in Mexico City shortly after World War II. A heavily edited version was first published in Astounding Stories, 17, No. 4 (Jun 1936). Manuscript is accompanied by a leather folder. The folder also included photographs of three pages of the manuscript.
