- Abstract:
- This thesis details design and development of a novel neonatal transilluminator, focusing on the development of robust electronic circuitry and a testable prototype. Transilluminators are medical devices used in many diagnostic procedures for neonatal patients, particularly those in the neonatal intensive care unit. This novel device is a wearable design that is intended to be more ergonomic and more effective than existing devices. Existing transilluminators have been shown to improve the success rates of certain procedures, specifically arterial and venous blood draws, but clinicians often choose not to use them because they slow down or add difficulty to the procedure. Prior to the work of this thesis a proof of concept was developed. This work developed a robust and testable prototype with printed circuit boards containing the electronics and silicone molded parts.
