Nadar at Place de l'Opéra

Description

Abstract:
Although a writer and caricaturist, Nadar is best known for his individual human portraits and aerial photography taken from his balloon "Le Géant." In 1858, three years after patenting aerial photography, Nadar became the first to successfully photograph Paris from a balloon. In the same year, Nadar produced a series of photos of Parisian sewers using electric light. This photograph of Nadar in front of the Place de l'Opéra was taken in 1890.
