- Abstract:
- This program includes an extensive1.5 page welcome letter from Nancy R, Dunbar, Chairperson and John R. Lucas, Managing Director providing a history of theatre at Brown from 1868 to 1996. Producer Michelle Bach-Coulibaly's note cited the diversity of the program that included contact improvisation, Bharatnatyam, classical ballet, tap, movement theatre, lyrical modern dance, a Bambara masquerade, and a historical work by dance icon, Donald McKayle. Kate Solmsenn was a Resumed Undergraduate Education (RUE) student. Many RUE students have been dancers who, like Kate, enrich the dance program by sharing their experiences as professional dancers with their younger undergraduate classmates. Dance Extension, directed by Julie Adams Strandberg was featured in Laura Bennett '92's "Reverie," Colin Connor's "Requiem," and Donald McKayle's "Rainbow Etude." The student choreographers for this show were: Stasia Blyskal, Kathy Kulkarni, Kate Solmssen, Leigh Fitzgerald, Miriam Friedel. The alumni choreographer and the dances in which they performed for this show were: Laura Bennett '92, "Reverie"
