Brown Theatre and Julie Strandberg present Brown Festival of Dance 2008

Description

Abstract:
Highlights of this concert included "613 Radical Acts of Prayer" conceived by Liz Lerman Dance Exchange and was the culmination of a two-week residency in Providence, RI that included thirty seven students and community performers, and Michelle Bach-Coulibaly's "Bloodline," investigating global environmental and disease control initiatives. Dance Extension, directed by Julie Adams Strandberg was featured in "Madame Sand" by Donna Jewell and "Ciona" by Pilobolus. Having a work by Pilobolus reflected Strandberg's steadfast commitment to providing Brown students with the opportunity, rare in the academy, to work with some of our most revered choreographers and exciting contemporary innovators. Prior guest artists include Martha Graham, Charles Weidman, José Limón, Anna Sokolow, Jack Cole, Merce Cunningham, Pearl Primus, Paul Taylor, Donald McKayle, Danny Grossman, Mark Morris, Danny Buraczeski, Colin Connor, Carolyn Dorfman, David Parsons, Lisa Race, and Robert Battle.
