Fashions in the Palais-Royal gardens: (1837)

Description

Abstract:
The woman depicted in this plate is wearing a dress with a very wide skirt and a fur trimmed 'paletot' or 'pardessus,' a coat-like garment worn over dresses. She is also wearing a large bonnet that almost covers her entire face, a style that would become more fashionable after 1840. The man is wearing a paletot, or a coat with lapels and a loose and straight cut through the hips, without adornments and a top hat. Abstract source: Boucher, François. 20,000 Years of Fashion. New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc, 1967.
