The Frenchwoman of the century

Description

Abstract:
Title page plate. Gives a sampling of the different styles of women's dresses, hairstyles and accessories the reader will read about in detail throughout the book.
Notes:
This full-color plate was modified for the English text. In the original French plate, the canvas to which the woman on the right points with her fan had the title - "La Française du siècle" - printed on it in ornate lettering. The black box on the left also had the artist's and editor's names printed on each of its two exposed sides. In the English edition, these details were burnished out of the engravings. Printed in France on handmade paper.
