- This paper examines the role of women and of the cultural ‘feminine’ in Concrete poetry, and the relation between its aesthetic and sexual ideologies. Women are almost absent as poets and an anti-feminine stance informs the Concrete poetics. In two main ways Concretism can be seen as inhospitable to women: in the virile self-presentation of the Concrete poets and in the insistently masculinized representation of the aesthetics the movement propounds. The theory of Concrete poetry identifies valid literary creation with masculine values and with the suppression of the feminine. Although Concretism effectively re-energized poetic form and renewed Brazilian poetry, in terms of its sexual ideology it was a very conservative vanguard.
- Este artigo examina o papel das mulheres e do "feminino" cultural na poesia concreta, e a relação entre suas ideologias estéticas e sexuais. Como poetas, as mulheres estão quase ausentes, e uma postura antifeminina informa a poética concreta. De duas maneiras principais, o concretismo pode ser visto como inóspito para as mulheres: na auto-apresentação viril dos poetas concretos e na representação insistentemente masculinizada da estética proposta pelo movimento. A teoria da poesia concreta identifica a criação literária válida com valores masculinos e com a supressão do feminino. Embora o concretismo tenha efetivamente revigorado a forma poética e renovado a poesia brasileira, em termos de sua ideologia sexual era uma vanguarda muito conservadora.
