Abstract:
What her clothes provoked in her workplace wasn't exactly astonishment but a certain indefinable impression. Their simplicity called attention. After reaching forty, she had taken to wearing loose cotton clothing everywhere she went, with bare feet or sandals; neither did this go unnoticed. But in those days, she dressed in shirts of English poplin, always the same style, with the sleeves rolled-up and a skirt to match: in the winter, gray flannel or tweed; in the summer, full prints.
