- Transcrevem-se abaixo cinco textos de Olavo Bilac publicados em "O Filhote", seção humorística da Gazeta de Notícias, diário carioca. O primeiro é um falso epitáfio escrito para uma pessoa viva: Luís Delfino dos Santos (1834-1910), considerado por alguns de seus contemporâneos o maior poeta brasileiro. O segundo é uma "charada " endereçada a Cândido Luís Maria de Oliveira (1845-1919), conselheiro e ex-ministro do Império, que dirigia jornais monarquistas. A reforma ministerial de que trata o terceiro texto fora promovida pelo presidente da República em exercício, Manuel Vitorino (1853-1902), que assumira por causa de problemas de saúde do titular. O texto seguinte saúda ironicamente a volta ao poder do piracicabano Prudente de Morais (1841-1902); o presidente licenciado retornara sem alarde ao Rio de Janeiro para evitar que Vituca fizesse alguma manobra para permanecer na Presidência. Com a nova posse de Prudente, acreditava-se que reassumiria o ministério da Fazenda o paulista Rodrigues Alves (1848-1919), alvo de algumas sátiras bilaquianas. O último texto pertence a uma longa séria de poemas fesceninos, que foram responsáveis pela popularidade da seção humorística.
- Five texts by Olavo Bilac, published in "O Filhote," the humorous section of Gazeta de Notícias, a Rio-based newspaper, are transcribed here. The first is a false epitaph written for a living person: Luís Delfino dos Santos (1834-1910), considered by some of his contemporaries as the greatest Brazilian poet. The second is a charade addressed to Cândido Luís Maria de Oliveira (1845-1919), counselor and former minister of the Empire, who ran royalist newspapers. The ministerial reform dealt with in the third text had been promoted by the acting President of the Republic, Manuel Vitorino (1853-1902), who had taken over the government due to health issues of the elected president. The following text ironically salutes the return to the power of Piracicaba-natural Prudente de Morais (1841-1902); the elected President had returned to Rio de Janeiro without fanfare to prevent Vituca from making any move to remain in the Presidency. With the new term of Prudente's administration, it was believed that the São Paulo natural Rodrigues Alves (1848-1919) would it reassume the title of Secretary of the Treasure, being the target of some Bilaquian satires. The last text belongs to a long series of fescennine poems, which were responsible for the popularity of the humorous section of the newspaper.
