- Ngunan Adamu reflects on her identity as a Nigerian Scouser, family histories of resistance in Nigeria, and Liverpool’s role in the transatlantic slave trade. She discusses the legacies of slavery in education and identity, the importance of cultural traditions, and the meanings of freedom and resistance for Black communities in Liverpool. - Biographical/historical note: Ngunan Adamu is a dynamic British-Nigerian journalist, radio producer, and entrepreneur known for her work empowering women through media and storytelling. Born in Liverpool, she is the founder of iWoman Academy, a pioneering training programme designed to equip women particularly from underrepresented communities with the skills and confidence to thrive in broadcasting and beyond. With a background at the BBC, Ngunan has produced and presented content that reflects diverse voices and challenges societal norms. Her work bridges journalism, community engagement, and education, with a strong focus on social justice and inclusion. As a speaker and mentor, she advocates for media that represents the realities of all communities and uses storytelling as a tool for empowerment and change. Recognised locally and internationally, Ngunan continues to inspire through her commitment to creating accessible pathways into media for the next generation of women leaders. She is a passionate changemaker reshaping narratives from the grassroots up.
