- This article explores some aspects of the work O Resto é Silêncio, written by the Brazilian writer Erico Verissimo (1905-1975). Among these aspects is a fugue structure, composition in counterpoint, widely used in music and disseminated in the literary medium by Aldous Huxley. In this book, there are several diegetic nuclei, but these plots do not meet one another during the story. The narrative cohesion is performed by the fugue structure (when the musical theme is resumed in several voices), unlike the more usual narrative, which is tied at the plot level. O Resto é Silêncio is composed by stories that never intertwine, but take up common themes. Although there are several themes on the run in each diegetic nuclei, the present study has chosen the theme of Catholicism, which is taken up in several stories of this narrative.
- Este artigo analisa alguns aspectos composicionais da obra O Resto é Silêncio, do escritor gaúcho Erico Verissimo (1905-1975). Dentre esses aspectos está a estrutura em fuga, composição em contraponto, muito utilizada em música e difundida no meio literário por Aldous Huxley. No livro, há diversos núcleos diegéticos, contudo, esses núcleos não se encontram uns com os outros durante a história. A coesão narrativa é realizada pela estrutura em fuga (quando determinado tema musical é retomado em diversas vozes), diferentemente da narrativa mais usual, que se amarra no nível do enredo. O Resto é Silêncio é composto de histórias que jamais se entrecruzam, mas retomam temas em comum. Embora haja vários temas em fuga em cada núcleo diegético, o presente estudo faz um recorte pelo tema do catolicismo, que é retomado nas diversas histórias dessa narrativa.
