- The scope of this paper is to discuss some aspects concerning the wide concepts of “world literature" and world literary field as well as their eventual innovative features in the conceptual framework of the Literary Studies. I examine questions related to the different canons at work and the role and consideration of translation, in this case, for the Brazilian Literature. At the same time, I make some considerations regarding the position of Paulo Coelho in the context of academic research compared with his actual impact both inside and outside the literary field (social spaces and the movement or attraction of people towards places) suggesting that it is not accurate to talk about Brazilian literature in the framework of the world literature (in any of its conceivable dimensions) if both the work of Paulo Coelho and the challenges for research on the international projection of Brazilian literature and culture of studying his trajectory are excluded, for biased reasons as the small symbolic credit that taking Coelho as a case study grants for scholars.
- O presente trabalho pretende problematizar alguns aspectos relativos ao conceito amplo de “literatura mundial”, campo literário mundial e o seu eventual caráter de novo quadro conceitual no âmbito do estudo da literatura. Nele, são examinadas questões relativas aos diversos cânones em jogo e ao papel e consideração da tradução, no caso da literatura brasileira. É realizada igualmente uma aproximação concreta à posição de Paulo Coelho no quadro da pesquisa acadêmica, comparada com o seu eventual impacto, tanto no campo como fora do campo literário (em espaços sociais e no movimento ou atração de pessoas a espaços) para formular a sugestão de não ser correto falar da literatura brasileira no quadro da literatura mundial (em qualquer das dimensões que se considerarem) caso se exclua (por razões preconceituosas ou de poucos créditos simbólicos para quem pesquisa, via de regra) a obra de Coelho e dos desafios que a sua trajetória coloca para investigações na literatura e na cultura brasileiras na sua projeção exterior.
