Women in the shadows: the theme of the second wife in 'Encarnação', 'A intrusa,' and 'A sucessora'

Abstract:
The article addresses the theme of the second wife in the works 'Encarnação,' by José de Alencar; 'A intrusa,' by Júlia Lopes de Almeida, and 'A sucessora,' by Carolina Nabuco. The topic, on the one hand, is used to establish and set paradigms for women. On the other hand, the first tensioning of these same paradigms is instituted.
O artigo trata da temática da segunda esposa nas obras 'Encarnação', de José de Alencar; 'A intrusa', de Júlia Lopes de Almeida, e 'A sucessora', de Carolina Nabuco. O tema, de um lado, é utilizado para estabelecer e fixar paradigmas para as mulheres. De outro lado, instituem-se os primeiros tensionamentos desses mesmos paradigmas.
