- This article analyses Clarice Lispector’s “The foreign legion”. The short story describes the encounter of the narrator/writer with a girl named Ofélia. The interaction between the two (or three?) of them unveils a sequence of events that fall under the concept of epiphany, in line with James Joyce. The narrative can be divided into three parts and spans the period between Christmas and Easter, dates that, according to Christian symbolism, represent respectively birth and rebirth. Philosophically, the text approaches the concepts of essence and appearance.
- Este artigo analisa “A legião estrangeira”, de Clarice Lispector. No conto, há o encontro da narradora/escritora com uma menina, Ofélia. Através da relação entre as duas (ou seriam três?), descortina-se um suceder de eventos que podem ser descritos dentro do conceito de epifania, segundo James Joyce. A narrativa, divisível em três partes, pontua temporalmente o Natal e a Páscoa, duas datas que, na simbologia cristã, remetem ao nascimento e ao renascimento respectivamente. Filosoficamente, o texto perpassa ainda os conceitos de essência e aparência.
