- The article explores how the indigenous communities of Lekwungen in Victoria, British Columbia dealt with cultural loss and reclaimed their homelands and cultural practices. The involvement of spiritual and social interactions in the subsistence living of indigenous communities is described. Despite of ongoing colonialism and threats of cultural harm, these people persevere to find solutions for cultural continuity. It also explores how the Fort Victoria development resulted to the destruction of Lekwungen ancestral lands and deterioration of trading and food systems in the region.
