Community and the arts and cultural economy

Description

Abstract:
These installations are visualizations based on the analyses of various data, such as housing prices, population, household income, and cities' cultural spending, revenue and employment. This exhibit explores various relationships and questions related to community and investment and return-on-investment of arts spending, such as whether previous wealth plays a role in the efficiency of arts spending and the creation of jobs. Using the Arts and Economic Prosperity dataset from the Americans for Art organization, we extracted data from cities of similar size as Providence, RI to create a fair and adequate comparison of expenditures and revenues of events such as Waterfire.
