Description

Abstract:: The author reflects on the internationalization of Portuguese historiography, beginning with the definitions of "internationalization" and of "Portuguese Historiography." He then summarizes his own professional history with the topic and asks if the internationalization of careers will define yet another institutional variant of parochialism, or represent a more thorough challenge. The author structures his commentary into four observations: a perhaps too narrow definition of the terms of reference of the debate; the limitations of resources and lack of competence in non-Western languages in the domestic scene; the dilution of relevant History articles in non-specific journals outside Portugal; and, lastly, the lack of voices of woman historians in the current debate.; O autor reflecte sobre a internacionalização da historiografia portuguesa, começando pelas definições de «internacionalização» e de «Historiografia Portuguesa». Ele então resume a sua história profissional com o tema e pergunta se a internacionalização de carreiras definirá apenas uma variante institucional do paroquialismo, ou representará uma mudança mais profunda. O autor estrutura o seu comentário em quatro observações: uma definição talvez demasiado estreita dos termos de referência do debate; as limitações dos recursos e a falta de proficiência em idiomas não-ocidentais no âmbito doméstico; a diluição de artigos de História relevantes em jornais não-especializados fora de Portugal; e, enfim, a carência de vozes de mulheres historiadoras no debate corrente.
