- Lyric poetry and History are usually treated as incompatible fields, since in the literary tradition events are the object of the epic. This essay is concerned with the ways of representing historical occurrences in lyrical discourse, examining the role of the poetic subject in the organization and fictionalization of the raw material of History. It studies Meireles' ‘Romanceiro da Inconfidência’ as a privileged case of lyrical treatment of an episode of Brazilian colonial life: the insurrection of an intellectual elite in search of freedom from the taxes and exploitation of the Reign of Portugal.
- A poesia lírica e a história são geralmente tratadas como campos incompatíveis, já que na tradição literária os eventos são objeto da epopéia. Este ensaio trata das formas de representar ocorrências históricas no discurso lírico, examinando o papel do sujeito poético na organização e ficcionalização da matéria-prima da história. O artigo estuda o Romanceiro da Inconfidência, de Meireles, como um caso privilegiado de tratamento lírico de um episódio da vida colonial brasileira: a insurreição de uma elite intelectual em busca da liberdade dos impostos e da exploração do Reino de Portugal.
