- By correlating the meanings of what is enunciated and the process of enunciation, the reader identifies the iconicity that is established between both and begins to co-opt through a process in which the material support of the word creates the seduction of the spectacle to denounce the deceptive devices of the eye. However, in order to grasp the ethical and aesthetic reflection of this Machadian text, it is necessary to accompany Rubião in his journey, which goes beyond the three initial chapters, and to respond to the invitation that the enunciator thus formulates: "Vem comigo, leitor; vamos vê-lo, meses antes, à cabeceira do Quincas Borba" (Assis, p. 644).
- Ao correlacionar as significações do enunciado e os procedimentos da enunciação, o leitor identifica a iconicidade que se estabelece entre ambos e passa a cooptar com um processo em que o suporte material da palavra cria a sedução do espetáculo para denunciar os enganosos ardis do olhar. Entretanto, para apreender a reflexão ética e estética do texto machadiano, é necessário acompanhar Rubião em seu percurso, que vai além dos três capítulos iniciais, e atender ao convite que o enunciador assim formula: "Vem comigo, leitor; vamos vê-lo, meses antes, à cabeceira do Quincas Borba" (Assis, p. 644).
