- No jogo dialético entre o regional e a geografia abstrata e globalizada, entre o sentimento do vaqueiro-personagem de Guimarães Rosa e o do homem cosmopolita, homme du monde, onde se evidencia, também, a relação entre o individual (e a obra de arte é individual, única) e o coletivo, vai-se delineando o perfil de um país, como o Brasil, nação emergente que deseja conhecer-se. Com efeito, a linha de montagem da divulgação cultural começa, hoje, de trás para a frente. Primeiro estuda-se a demanda do mercado (o que não necessariamente coincide com o que o leitor deseja) e em seguida se encomenda ao escritor um romance sobre um aeroporto, um hospital ou um perfume. Mas é verdade que não se fazem mais Lolitas como antigamente. Dentro desse sucinto e incompleto quadro geral, pode-se, em três ou quatro traços, desenhar a situação artística e cultural do Brasil atual. Dois pontos poderiam ser didaticamente abordados: como o Brasil se vê (ou quer que o vejam) e como, no Exterior, é recebida a imagem do Brasil cultural.
- In this dialectical game between the regional and the abstract globalized geographies, between the sentiment of the cowboy-character of Guimarães Rosa and that of the cosmopolitan man, homme du monde, where the relationship between the individual (and the work of art is also individual, unique) and the collective, is outlining the profile of a country such as Brazil, an emerging nation that wishes to know itself. Indeed, the assembly line of cultural outreach begins today, in reverse. First, the demands of the market are studied (which do not necessarily coincide with what readers want), and finally, a novel about an airport, a hospital, or a perfume is commissioned through the writer. But it is true that they don't make Lolitas like they used to. Within this succinct and incomplete general framework, one can outline, with three or four strokes, the artistic and cultural situation of present-day Brazil. Two points could be addressed: the way Brazil sees itself (or wants to see itself) and how the image of cultural Brazil is received abroad.
